This is a collection of articles and reports of one of the leaders of the Jewish community of Ukraine, Joseph Zisels, written and delivered by him in the pa st 10-15 years, starting with the creation of the Chernovtsy Jewish Social and Cultural Fund - the first Jewish organization in the then Soviet Ukraine. The book opens with an autobiographic interview - through the personal memoirs of the author, the read sees the picture of the Jewish life in Chernovtsy after the war, the birth of the dissident movement in the 1960-70-s, activities of the Helsinki Group, the process of formation of the first Jewish organizations in late 1980-s, formation of the "Rukh" movement.
