Educational CDs

The CDs were made within the project of the Cabinet of Jewish History and Culture. The goal of the project is to develop educational CDs on various topics of the Jewish history and culture.

The CDs were developed by a team of historians, experts in Jewish literature and traditions. They are designed for teachers of Jewish schools of Ukraine, other secondary and high schools, as well as for all those who are interested in the Jewish history.

The project is supported by the L.A. Pinkus Foundation for Jewish Education in the Diaspora, Israel.

The CDs are the intellectual property of the Jewish Studies Institute and are not designed for commercial use.

Educational CD “History of Aliyah”, edited and compiled by Olga Yakovleva, Kiev, 2005

Educational CD on the history of aliyah.
The CD contains fragments of monographs, articles, reminiscences, and documents.
The CD presents dozens of texts on the following topics:
Land of Israel and its role in the worldview of Judaism; history of creation of the first Jewish agricultural settlements in the territory of Palestine; the second, third, fourth, and fifth aliyah; illegal aliyah of 1938-1948; mass aliyah after creation of the State of Israel; problems of Soviet Jews in the 1960-70s.
The CD presents analytical articles on the role of the aliyah of the 1990s in the economic development, in the political and public life of the State of Israel, and pictures and photos to each textual section, as well as audio and video materials.
The CD was prepared within the project of the Cabinet of Jewish History and Culture.
The CD is designed for teachers of Jewish schools of Ukraine, other secondary and high schools, as well as for all who are interested in the Jewish history on the whole, especially the history of the State of Israel.

Educational CD “Essays of History of Jews of Eastern Europe”, edited and compiled by Yury Korogodsky, Kiev, 2005

This educational CD is devoted to the basic pages of the history of the Jews of Eastern Europe. The CD contains dozens of texts from encyclopedias, monographs, collections of articles and documents. The CD presents texts on the following topics: Jewish communities in the Khazarian Caganate, the Lithuanian-Polish period, messianic movements, the birth of Chassidism, Jews in the Moscow Russ and the Russian Empire, Jews in the Russian army, Jews of Western Ukraine under Gabsburgs, the Zionist movement, the “black years” of the Soviet Jewry, and revival of the community and cultural life in the post-Soviet period.
The CD presents documents, photographs, and video materials to illustrate the texts. It concludes with a vast bibliography of research and scientific-popular works on these topics.

Educational CD “Case of Beilis, Case of Dreifus”, edited and compiled by Yury Korogodsky, Kiev, 2005

This is an educational CD on the history of court processes that became part of history as the “Dreifus’ Case” and the “Beilis’ Case”. The CD contains dozens of texts collected from encyclopedias, monographs, collections of articles and documents. The CD presents texts on the following topics: chronology of the “Dreifus’ Case”, polemics between pro-Dreifus and anti-Dreifus supporters; the phenomenon of the “blood libel”, the sociopolitical situation in the Russian Empire on the eve of the “Beilis’ Case”, investigations and court hearings, Beilis’ justification.
The CD presents drawings, photographs, and video materials to illustrate the texts, as well as verbatim reports of the court hearings.


Educational CD “Jewish Literature in Eastern Europe (ÕIX-ÕÕ)”, edited and compiled by Anatoly Kerzhner, Kiev, 2004

This is an educational CD on the history of Jewish literature in Eastern Europe in the 19th – beginning of the 20th century. The CD contains dozens of texts of classic works of the following directions: Hebrew literature, Yiddish literature, and Russian Jewish literature. Each of the sections of the CD begins with special articles on literature from encyclopedias. Reference materials contains information on the biographies of writers and the bibliography of their works. The CD also contains pictures and video materials to illustrate the texts.


Educational CD “History of Zionism”, edited and compiled by Yury Korogodsky, Kiev, 2004

Educational CD on the history of the Zionist movement and ishuv up to 1948. The CD presents texts on the following topics: Jewish communities on the eve of the modern times, religious Zionism, socialist Zionism, the First and Second Aliyah, ishuv during the Second World War, War for Independence, etc.
References include a dictionary of terms, a chronological table, a dictionary of personalities, of Zionist parties and movements, bibliography, and maps.
The CD also contains pictures and video materials to illustrate the texts.

Educational CD “Holocaust”, edited and compiled by Yury Korogodsky, Kiev, 2004

This is an educational CD on the history of the Holocaust of the European Jewry. The CD contains more than 100 texts from encyclopedias, monographs, collections of articles and documents. The CD presents texts on the following topics: sources of anti-Semitism, Holocaust in Western and Central Europe, Holocaust in the USSR, Jewish Resistance, philosophical and ethical aspects of the Holocaust, etc. References contain a dictionary of terms, a chronological table, bibliography, and maps. The CD presents photographs and video materials to illustrate the texts.
