Mila Gohman

Mila Gokhman is an author of articles of leather outstanding in beauty and design – picturesque relief pictures and decorations.

Her talent is unique; her techniques are faultless; her professionalism is doubtless.

Mila Gokhman’s creative path began 30 years ago with easel paintings – abstract compositions made of intricate beddings of leather; they were profound in philosophical sense. They were followed by jewelry as a continuation of her easel works in technology, wholeness and expressiveness of esthetic concept.

In the sophisticated plastics of Mila Gokhman’s works, in the fantasies of her ornaments, in the delicacy of interwoven lines sounds a nostalgic note of modern. Having devoted many years of creativity solely to working with leather, Mila revealed all of its variety in her plastic, invoice and dyeing potential. She has confirmed leather as a universal material for paining, sculpture, jewelry, and graphics.

Nevertheless, at the personal exhibition of Mila Gokhman at the Shevchenko Museum (October 1993), along with her leather masterpieces, she also exhibited cycles and multipart compositions of color paper and graphic sheets. This new aspect of the artist’s creativity helped her to express her creative self more freely. Mila’s graphics turned out to be a continuation of the same creative world, a projection of the plane she has discovered in leather.

Mila Gokhman was born and lives in Kiev, but her creative formation took place in Tallinn, where her internal vision acquired its form and material.

In Tallinn was her first personal exhibition, followed by years of hard work. Mila actively cooperated with the Kiev House of Clothe Models. As part of a collection of Kiev’s designers, Mila’s works traveled all over the world. Her works were always a success in the Baltic countries, Leningrad, Kiev, and the United States (eight personal exhibitions).
